MODIS based Fire Burned Area: The Terra and Aqua combined MCD64A1 Version 6 Burned Area data product is a monthly, global gridded 500 meter (m) product containing per-pixel burned-area. Burned areas are characterized by deposits of charcoal and ash, removal of vegetation, and alteration of the vegetation structure. The MODIS burned area mapping algorithm takes advantage of these spectral, temporal, and structural changes.
